Affirmation Bible Reading: Genesis1:1 – 5

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Isn’t it interesting that the first recorded words of God were: “Let there be light.” What incredible affirmation that God, our creator, knows what we need. We need light to survive. Light gives us life. Medically, people deprived of light, develop rickets (weak bones). People who live in countries that don’t receive much sunshine, suffer from serious depression. I knew someone who seriously considered selling flights that could ascend above the constant cloud line in his country, just for passengers to be able to see the sunlight. Light improves mood and stabilizes our circadian rhythms (our internal clock), helping us get a better night’s sleep. It can even increase cognitive performance such as reaction time and activation. So get out into the sun and fresh air as much as possible and have fun exercising.

In a year filled with unimaginable tragedy and darkness, many of us reached out for the light of God’s presence, as we staggered along the path on the journey of 2020. His Word speaks light into our being and stops us from becoming overwhelmed by darkness. We need to rely on Him to light the way for us. Jesus says in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” God wants to light your path so that you can live an abundant (large quantity, plentiful, copious, ample) life, with Him guiding you in the direction which He knows will best suit you. After all, you were created by the King of kings, for a specific purpose, which He designed specifically for you. So step out mighty Princess/Prince and follow Jesus, shining the light of your Creator for such a time as this!!!

Trace this sun template into your journal and colour it in.

Before colouring in the circular centre of the sun, write a few words about something that is currently making you feel overwhelmed. Now colour over the top of those words, making whatever felt dark and ugly, look light and beautiful.

Breathe exercise: Hold your tongue up against the ridges of your palate. Exhale deeply. Now inhale to the count of 4, hold your breath for the count of 7 and exhale to the count of 8. Repeat this four times. Now that your brain is focused, meditate quietly, with your eyes closed for 5 minutes (set a timer), on these words: God is in control and I can rely on Him.

Pray: Lord, without your presence in my life, everything seems dark and overwhelming. I ask you to bring light today and that you would help me to listen for your powerful voice, because when You speak, things happen! Amen!

Remember: Even in our dark times, God is still there. His light still shines.

Food Diary: We need to have a positive relationship with food. God’s word tells us to treat our bodies respectfully; therefore we need to eat healthy food, in reasonable proportions, drink lots of water and exercise. At the end of each day, make a note of what you ate during the course of the day. Reflect on how your body and mind benefited or struggled after consuming the various items. Noticeable reactions to processed or sugary foods will manifest in a lack of concentration or mood swings. Try to eat whole foods like vegetables, fruit, legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains, meat, fish and eggs.

This affirmation speaks into my situation so powerfully. I re-read it a few times in the day.

The choice of music was also perfect – a further affirmation.

I take diet and exercise (and sleep) for granted, undermining their importance in well-being. Really great affirmation, thank you!

    1. Lindiwe your words are such a wonderful encouragement to me. I praise the Lord for providing the means and opportunity to share His love affirmation with you. Bless you dear sister in Christ.
