Affirmation Bible verse:
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love, he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17
Joy is part of God’s nature and character and as imitators of Christ, it should be evident in us too. Interestingly, when we find ourselves going through bad times, we seem to lose our joy. The thing is, joy is not an emotion or feeling, like happiness, and it is not dependent on our circumstances. Joy is a deep delight in the person of Jesus Christ! It is the foundation of our relationship with Christ and our obedience to Him. Joy is the ability to be content believing that God is working all things for our good. Therefore, we have a choice to wallow in self-pity or to choose to stay in His presence, joyfully.
Acts 2:28: “You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.”
Joy is one of the fruits of the spirit and we need to access it regularly because the joy of the Lord in your life is a real threat to Satan and so he will desperately try to steal it from you.
Meditate: Nehemiah 8:10 “And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Ponder on these words and their significance in your life. These words should shock you out of your self-pity and self-focus, and get you re-focused on God. Joyless Christianity is very dangerous because when we lose our joy and strength, we lose heart and hope. We need to protect our joy and you can do this by rejoicing in the Lord during tough times. This is the main reason why I always attach a Christian Worship song to my blogs. They have always been a source of great comfort to me during times of trouble, trials and tribulations.
Don’t be lead into the enemy’s trap of believing that you have failed in some way or that you don’t have enough faith when times are tough. Life happens, things come against us and all of this can take a toll on us as human beings. Stand up and fight in the power of God and use JOY as your weapon.
Psalm 51:12 “Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” Draw courage from the verse which assures us that when we press into God, He will restore our joy and sustain us. Joy is the barometer of your spiritual life. Jesus said in John 15:10-11 “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love… These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
‘Joy is not necessarily the absence of suffering, it is the presence of God.’Sam Storms
Pray: Romans 15:13 “Dear God of hope, please fill me with all joy and peace as I trust in You, so that I may overflow with hope and joy by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
