Bible Affirmation Verse: I John 1:8-10

“If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.”

Do you feel so broken that you are sure God can’t fix you? Perhaps your life story is similar to the song Demi Lovato and Sam Fischer sing called: What Other People Say. The words are as follows:

Thought when I grew up
I would be the same as the ones who gave me my last name
I would not give in, I would not partake
In the same old drugs everyone else takes

I’m better than that, I’m better than that
I’m living my life so I go to heaven and never come back
But look where I’m at, look where I’m at
I’m living the life that I said I wouldn’t, I wanna go back

I used to call my mom every Sunday
So she knew her love wasn’t far away
But now I’m all messed up out in LA
‘Cause I care more about what other people say
I used to not take chances with God’s name
But it’s been so long since I last prayed
And now I’m all messed up and my heart’s changed
‘Cause I care more about what other people say
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
‘Cause I care more about what other people say

I wish I could shelter the boy I knew
From the constant hell, I put him through
‘Cause I’m all grown up and I’m black and blue
I could use some tape, I could use some glue   I’m better than that, I’m better than that
I should be living my life so I go to heaven and never come back.

When everything around you feels overwhelming and your life seems to have fallen off the track and you cry out to God, but He doesn’t seem to answer. You desperately seek miraculous provision and you fret and worry whether God will come through for you because you have let him down so many times. You ask advice from your friends and listen to bad advice from those who can’t be trusted because you worry about what they think of you. You tell God about your problems and then try to hide your imperfections, instead of surrendering them to Him and trusting Him to heal you and thanking him that He can make you whole again. He can piece your soul together and create beauty from your brokenness and provide strength for future challenges.

Breathe: Inhaling might not always calm you down, because it is linked to the sympathetic nervous system, which controls the flight-or-fight response. Taking too many deep breaths too quickly, when you are anxious or stressed, can cause you to hyperventilate. Hyperventilation decreases the amount of oxygen-rich blood that flows to your brain. Exhaling on the other hand is linked to the parasympathetic nervous system which influences your body to relax and calm down. Try exhaling, pushing all of the air out of your lungs, then allow your lungs to do the work of inhaling. Now practice shorter inhale and longer exhale for 5 minutes: Inhale for 4 seconds and exhale for 6 seconds.

Meditate on: 1 Peter 2:24-25 “Jesus used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing. You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going. Now you’re named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls.”

“You won’t realize your full potential until you go through the tough times.”

Quote by Kumai

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold — a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections, thus creating a stronger and more beautiful piece of art.

God’s grace is like the gold used in Kintsugi. By His grace we are patched together, incorporating our brokenness into the repair, so that our imperfections are made more beautiful instead of being disguised. We will never be the same again, but we will wear the cracks from this life like the badges of bravery, perseverance and survival that they are!

We must always remember that we need Jesus, our Saviour, to scoop up the pieces and put us back together. He is the only one who has the power and know-how to fix us. We can’t do it on our own.

Pray: Dear Jesus, You know my deepest worries and hurts and the areas where I desperately long for healing and restoration. Today I fully surrender those to You, and I ask You to help me have a joyous, expectant faith as I wait for You to move. I commit to trusting You, Your ways, Your plans and Your timing from this day forward. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
